Professor Julien Michel represents the UK at the 10th Chemical Sciences and Society Summit (CS3)

The CS3 is an international cooperative initiative that brings together leading chemists from China, Japan, Great Britain, Germany and the USA to address critical global challenges.

This year’s event focuses on “Data science for chemistry”. Hosted by the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the DFG (German Research Foundation), around thirty international experts are gathering in Frankfurt am Main from 31 August to 2 September.

The School of Chemistry’s Professor Julien Michel, an expert in biomolecular simulation, is part of an invited UK delegation comprising 5 scientists.

Julien will contribute a strategic perspective on the state of ‘Generative Drug Discovery’ as well as joining panel discussions around these and other topics covered during the summit.  The perspectives draw directly on his expertise in physics-based modelling, machine learning and quantum computing for drug discovery.

The outputs from CS3 meetings often include influential international white papers and strategic research recommendations for policymakers and the global scientific community. Watch this space for the outputs of the Frankfurt meeting!

I am honoured to represent the UK at this summit and to share my perspective on the state of data science for chemistry in drug discovery. The CS3 Summit offers a unique opportunity to bring together research teams from multiple countries to focus on global challenges and to issue recommendations for policymakers.
