There are lots of ways to get involved with the current work of the School. By sharing your time, expertise and connections, you could make a valuable difference to future generations of students. Host an Industrial Placement The industrial placement programme is an increasingly attractive option to undergraduate students keen to gain some practical experience of working in industry and conscious of the need to differentiate themselves in the job market. It is available to all MChem students during the final year of their degree programme and students are placed with a very wide variety of hosts including multinational pharmaceutical, agrochemicals and consumer products companies and government research institutes all over the world. As a School, we really value the relationships we have with our industrial placement hosts. Many of our more long-standing placements have, over the years, developed into strong partnerships of sharing knowledge and expertise which have had mutual benefit. If you would like to support the work of the School in this way and offer a placement opportunity in your company then please contact us. We would be delighted to hear from you. Offer Careers Support Our alumni help us to provide a broad spectrum of careers advice and support to the School of Chemistry community through delivering talks, taking part in panel sessions and offering one to one guidance. We organise careers events and workshops throughout the year to support students who are exploring their next steps. These sessions give students the chance to enhance their employability skills and gain insight from alumni and others working in careers that they are interested in. It is encouraging for students to hear from the people who have been in their shoes, and can be a rewarding experience for those sharing their perspectives. If you would like to speak at a careers event, facilitate a workshop, or get involved with mentoring to help prepare our students for life after graduation, please contact us.
