School researcher's paper chosen among the 50 best by Nature Communications A paper by Dr Adam Kirrander titled "Observation of the molecular response to light upon photoexcitation" has been selected by Nature Communications as one of the top 50 articles in physics in 2020. The paper was selected from over 6,400 that were published by the journal. This was a fun paper to write. So exciting to be able to observe the changes in a molecule as it absorbs a photon, this being a fundamental process in chemistry and physics. For me personally, it was nice to see an experiment I predicted several years ago realised. Most importantly, the experiment demonstrates what we can achieve with the new X-ray Free-Electron Lasers that are being built around the world.
