Career Ready Student of the Year

School pupil wins award after mentoring by Chemistry staff member

Stephanie Hartley, from St David's RC HIgh School, has received the Career Ready Student of the Year Award for Midlothian, which recognises the progress they have made while being mentored for the last two years in the School of Chemistry.

Stephanie was mentored by Technical Services Manager David Brown as part of a scheme led by Career Ready - a UK-wide charity linking employers with school pupils.

The scheme is aimed at giving young people additional support to make informed decisions about their future education and career.

Stephanie was also nominated for Career Ready’s STEM Student of the Year Award, which recognises the students who have made the most progress towards a career in a STEM industry during their time on the mentoring programme.

I have been Steph’s Career Ready mentor for a year and a half and can unequivocally say that I am delighted to be involved in the development of such an impressive and promising young person. You can really see how far Stephanie has progressed with the programme and flourished under its guidance.

I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My skills as a mentor have grown and developed, and it’s been a lovely experience to help such a bright young adult who holds so much potential.
