Graduate wins Salters’ Institute Award

Adelina Ivanova has won the prestigious Salters’ Institute Graduate Award for Chemistry.

Each year the Salters’ Institute recognises up to ten graduates of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering who show the potential to occupy leading positions in the UK chemical and allied industries. The awards ceremony was held virtually for the first time to celebrate the prize winners of 2020.

Adelina graduated with a first-class MChem Medicinal and Biological Chemistry degree from The University of Edinburgh. As part of her degree, she spent a year working in the Biocatalysis team in AstraZeneca. She recently started her PhD at the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge, focusing on calcium signalling in mammalian cells. Originally from Bulgaria, Adelina enjoys travelling and exploring different parts of the UK during weekends.

Congratulations to Adelina on her success!

For me it was a great honour to win the award and I was really happy. It showed that all the effort I put in to my undergraduate degree was recognised.

I was really happy to be selected to represent Edinburgh University. For me that was a great achievement.

Currently I am a PhD student at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Pharmacology.
