Probe sees inside lung to search for infection Proteus, the interdisciplinary research team comprised of researchers from Edinburgh, Bath and Heriot-Watt Universities, has developed a new probe for identifying bacterial infection inside the lungs. The technique uses a probe within the lung itself to investigate and identify potential infections. Current procedures require samples to be sent to labs for analysis, which can take weeks. The system developed by Proteus can provide results instantly. The same technique could even be adapted for use in other parts of the body.
