The University of Edinburgh School of Chemistry Workshop Team has been awarded a 2024 Technical Excellence Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry. This is awarded for technical innovations that have enable research breakthroughs across the School of Chemistry, and translation of technical expertise beyond, in times of both calm and crisis. The award recognises the work of George Steedman, Lloyd Mitchell and Stuart Johnstone, who bring together immense technical knowledge that spans the design, construction, and repair of bespoke equipment and glassware. Their support not only facilitates day-to-day work in the school but also leads to significant research breakthroughs. This has had many beneficial effects, including the publication of high-impact papers, securing research funding and the career development of researchers.
