Professor Peter Mathieson, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, congratulated everyone on this achievement. Be proud of yourselves, because you have done something special, but also be aware why you did get it. You are Ambassadors for the University who have invested time and resources towards development of yourselves, your peers, and the community. It’s our choices that we make that make us who we are. The Edinburgh Award for Chemistry Outreach and Public Engagement was successfully established and executed in 2017 by Dr Anna-Maria Maciejuk in collaboration with Edinburgh Award co-ordinator Kirsty Stewart. It is designed to recognise students undertaking various chemistry-based outreach and public engagement activities. Students have committed their time to design and deliver sessions for schools, charities, and science festivals with a view to increasing public understanding of chemistry and STEM subjects. Students from all of the University can participate in various Edinburgh Award versions. These are undertaken alongside a particular activity and recognise involvement, and individual development of skills and experiences. If you are a student at the School of Chemistry and would like to take part in Edinburgh Award for C.O.P.E. next year, please contact your new local Edinburgh Award leader Dr Jenny Bos.
