Outreach event held at Prestonfield Primary School March saw us get involved with STEM week at Prestonfield Primary, with the students enjoying a break from their usual lessons to receive visits from the Holyrood Park Rangers, the RSPB and university researchers from a range of disciplines. On Tuesday, Megan, Mari and Brian from the School of Chemistry Public Engagement Team, along with fellow PhD student Emily Goddard arrived bright and early to an enthusiastic welcome. They delivered three workshop classes to P4 and P5 students, who each had the chance to make their very own colourful, biodegradable plastic from renewable resources. The students loved the "hands-on" approach and the opportunity to discuss ideas behind sustainability and product development with real scientists. After an impressive clean-up operation, the team headed back to King's Buildings completely exhausted but safe in the knowledge that they'd given the students a day to remember!
