Paper published in ACS Catalysis A new research paper from the Thomas group titled "A Boron-Oxygen Transborylation Strategy for a Catalytic Midland Reduction" has been accepted for publication in the journal ACS Catalysis. Since their introduction over 50-years ago enantioenriched boranes have become ubiquitous in asymmetric synthesis. The Midland reduction offers a simple and highly effective means for the asymmetric reduction of ketones, but remains a stoichiometric process. Using a new mechanism for catalyst turnover, transborylation, the research team rendered the Midland reduction catalytic. This exemplar use of transboryaltion paves the way for greater exploitation and the development wider main-group catalysis protocols. Publication date 18 May, 2024
