Best Student Science Journalist

Katie Ember, from Colin Campbell's group in the Optima Centre for Doctoral Training, has been awarded best student journalist for Great Britain and Ireland of 2018 by the Association of British Science Writers.

Katie's winning entry was titled "Cosmic Heartbeats: The Discovery of Pulsars". Judges said the article was "engaging and well told, nicely crafted and beautifully written; a real passion and flair for the story."

Katie said: "Thanks to ABSW for the award and also to EUSci magazine for publishing the story and for the amazing artwork that went with it and also Prof Bell Burnell for providing the inspiration and the quotes for the article!"
